Celebrating some fall color with those pieced stars. I think in layers as I start to work out the color and then the line of a cloth. The line work eventually rising above the blocks of color and the various depths of line suggested with the color of thread. I haven't made it back to stitching leaves yet, but there are so many similarities in an insect wing.
I also gave a shaped edge a try - a star as fringe.
and Eva has fully claimed the fabric scrap corner in the top of the very big basket next to my sewing machine. The pets stay close as the days get colder.
Have a great weekend.
gorgeous stitching. amazing how the stitching completely transforms the cloth.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Deanna. I try for a balance between the base cloth and the line. T stand on their own but also compliment each other?
Deletestunning work really Susan I know I always come out with the same superlatives but I love your quiet genius of subtle colour & exquisite line, thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Mo. The simple backstitch has become my stitch of choice and I really love a pattern that fades in and out dependent on the variations of the color on the cloth.
Deletedid you dye this cloth?
ReplyDeleteI did not dye the fabric but I did paint it. These colors are the result of layers of fabric paint applied in thin washes. Some are washes over a solid colored commercial cottons I already had in rust and gold colors. The wash of paint gives the solid colors more variation which I like. It's also what I like about dyed cloth, but at this point - painting feels much more manageable for me.
DeleteI took a few more pics and I will try and add another post this afternoon.
